The Gulf of Mexico took shape about 300 million years ago. It was named in the 1550s, having derived its name from Mexica, the Nahuatl term for the Aztecs. The most famous Aztec is Montezuma II, among his policies were the replacement of a large portion of his court (including most of his advisors) with people he deemed preferable. However today he is known mostly for his namesake's revenge that shows up after late night Taco Bell.
